Unveiling the Application and the Grand Finale Insights

We’ve just closed the application deadline for this year’s SHE Award, and it’s been an incredible journey so far with a significant number of dedicated students from diverse backgrounds sharing their achievements in STEM fields.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who took the time to apply and became a part of this initiative.

What’s Next?

The next phase of SHE Award was equally exhilarating. Our dedicated team of expert evaluators, who represented renowned companies like Honeywell, Eaton, Procter & Gamble, SolarWinds, and Tietoevry, worked on the rigorous task of reviewing all submitted works. They assessed the research, innovation, and passion that each applicant had poured into their projects. Additionally, the evaluators paid close attention to the submitted videos, which were an integral part of the application process.

The top 8 finalists have already been selected and we are actively engaging with them, providing mentorship and guidance for their projects. Accomplished individuals will head to the prestigious Grand Finale at Prague’s renowned CIIRC (Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics). Here, our finalists will showcase their innovative projects to an expert panel of judges, and the climax of the competition will culminate in the crowning of the winner. The victorious participant will then go on to represent their achievements at the WE Local conference in Munich, Germany.

In addition to the competition, the event offers a unique opportunity for attendees to explore further. You can engage with our partners at the job fair or immerse yourself in the world of STEM through a series of lectures, seminars, and workshops.

Registration for the SHE STEM Award 2023 is open!

The registration for the SHE Award 2023 is in full swing! Before the holiday season begins, many students are taking advantage of the end-of-semester period to submit their applications for the competition of the best bachelor’s theses in our SHE Award. Evaluators, consisting of experts from all 4 STEM fields – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – will then select the top 8 bachelor’s theses, and their authors will advance to the Grand Finale in November.

The WE Local Barcelona Conference is behind us!

What is WE Local?

The very first WE Local conference was held in Amsterdam in May of 2015 and went on to take place annually in different cities across the continent. Conferences are organized by The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), which gathers individuals at various stages of their collegiate and professional paths. These conferences provide a platform for engineers, technologists, partners and students to engage in professional growth sessions, gain inspiration from influential speakers, network, and leverage other valuable opportunities.  In 2016 the WE Local conferences expanded to India, one year later to the United States, each year since then, there have been 3-5 WE Locals held across the globe.

The conference was a huge success with 425+ attendees, 35 breakout sessions, 15 poster competition participants, and 15 onsite exhibitors! With all that being said, Brno SWE Affiliate just had to be there! It was an amazing opportunity to meet numerous inspiring people and hear many excellent speeches including our representative Anastasia Polach’s presentation (the winner of SHE Award 2022) with her topic: „New Bacterial Species: The Gift That Keeps Giving“.

We are also incredibly proud of Ksenia Kulak, our SHE Award finalist, for claiming the first-place position in the poster session competition! The topic of her thesis was: “A new approach towards cancer treatment: finding the most effective and safe way of destroying tumors by heat”. In conclusion, events like WE Local hold great significance in nurturing the development of young STEM talents, exemplified by individuals like Ksenia.

It demonstrates how such conferences inspire the next generation of professionals and encourage them to pursue their careers in STEM fields.

Not to miss out on the beauty of host city, our team ended the day with a walking tour in the historic Gothic Quarter. We are looking forward to the next edition!
